Call forwarding (UC device control)
General information
Call forwarding to external numbers, as was often used with the hardphone, is not provided with the UC softphone solution, because important features (e.g. team call) will be deactivated.
With UC device control you get "improved" call forwarding and can flexibly define when you can be reached and how. You can either firmly select a device, e.g. your cell phone, or define with a rule according to time or according to your status how you can be reached. Furthermore, the "One Number Service" prevents the caller from seeing the forwarding destination. The caller is only shown your ETH number and no private number.
Set up additional devices (e.g. mobile/mobile phone)
Open the UC Client.
Click on the active device (e.g. "Phone Office") and select Device Settings:

In the section "Your phones", select the "Add new device" item

Enter a name for the device and the phone number. This must be entered in international format with a "+" in advance. e.g. +4179xxxxx

Advice
You can also enter additional phone numbers/devices that are important for your availability (e.g. home office number, assistance, voicemail if available).
Activate call forwarding/device control
To route calls to the mobile, the previously set up device "Mobile" must be selected in the menu bar.

Each diverted call costs ETH Zurich. This can be charged to the respective cost center in the future.
Deactivate call forwarding/device control
To deactivate call forwarding again, the ETH Zurich standard device "Telephone Office" can be selected via the menu.

information
With this setting, when you close the UC client, the caller hears the announcement that you are currently unavailable.
Info: Call Forwarding vs. Device Control (Notes for IT Supporters)
Traditional call forwarding
- Executed on the switchboard (Soft PBX = OpenScape Voice) at a time before the UC server knows about the call
- Leverages many features such as team functions
- "Hotline" (Multi Line Hunt Group) calls do not follow call forwarding
- The caller sees the actual destination number, i.e. possibly the mobile or private number
- In UC there is no more control over the call
UC device control
- Features, such as team call, are retained.
- Hotline" calls are forwarded to the active device
- The caller always sees only the ETH number, all others are "hidden" (Called "One Number Service" or ONS for short and is an elementary part of UC)
- The call can be distributed flexibly with rules (e.g. according to time or status) and / or device lists → call jumps from device to device).
- The UC is in control all the time, the call can be "transferred" between devices in the ongoing call (e.g. desktop to mobile or vice versa)
- Resilience: OpenScape Voice continues to store the active device and would continue to use this in the event of a UC server failure, only the "intelligence" (rules / device list) would then not work.
information
With both variants, ETH incurs additional costs for the second call.
