M365 - First Steps

Requesting a M365 License
In order to use Microsoft 365 at the ETH Zurich, you first have to request a cloud subscription from the IT-Shop. Once you have received the confirmation email from IT-Shop you can proceed to log in onto office.com. You can use M365 online from the Web or you can download and install the apps you need on your computer.
Go to https://itshop.ethz.ch/ and log in
Enter your ETH username and password
Select from the Service Catalog Cloud Services "Personal Cloud Subscription"- Select "Request Microsoft Cloud Subscription"
- Read the "Rules for the use of external cloud services managed by IT Services" carefully
- Fill out the form
- Submit Request
- Wait for the confirmation email from IT-Shop
Depending on your ETH relationship (student, employee, ETH-guest or ETH-Nahe), you will be assigned one of the following Microsoft licenses when you subscribe to the cloud:
- M365 A5 faculty
- M365 A5 student use benefit
- M365 A1 faculty
Note: For collaboration purposes, people from outside ETH (without ETH identification such as peter.test@test.com) should be invited to the team as guests (cloud only guests).
Login
- Go to https://microsoft365.com
- Sign in with your ETH user name. You will be forwarded to AD Authentication page
- Enter your ETH user name and password
- Enter One Time Password
Installation of Microsoft 365 or Office Apps
For managed Windows Clients the software is installed by the IT Support
For managed Mac Clients the software can be installed from ETH self-service store
For self-managed Clients (Windows, Mac & Linux), the software can be downloaded from the M365 Portal www.microsoft365.com

Data protection and Data storage
We take data protection and information security seriously. Applications for which the data are stored outside of Switzerland or the EU may only be activated after approval by the Executive Board.
