M365 Pool Storage
In December 2023, Microsoft announced a restructuring of the so-called “pool storage,” which provides the storage space for Microsoft 365 applications.

As a result of this restructuring, ETH Zurich currently has only 880 TB of pool storage, shared across all M365 services and users.
Given this new situation and the associated reduction in available storage, the quotas for the various M365 services will be adjusted accordingly.
The ETH Zurich storage is currently calculated using the following formula: 100TB (basic stock) plus number of A5-Lizenzen x 100GB → 7800 x 100 GB + 100TB = 780 TB + 100 TB = 880TB
One Drive
In the OneDrive service description, Microsoft communicates the size of OneDrive as 1TB for A5 licenses and 1GB for A1 licenses. However, these expectations created by Microsoft can no longer be met due to the new “Pool Storage”. For this reason, the quotas for personal OneDrive will be adjusted as follows:

As soon as 90% of the available memory has been reached, the user is notified by e-mail. A fee-based extension in not possible.

SharePoint Online
The storage space for SharePoint also comes from the “pool storage.” This means that the general quota for a SharePoint Online Site also have been reduced.

Teams
The storage backend of Teams is a SharePoint site managed through the Teams frontend. For this reason, the same storage quotas that apply to SharePoint Online also apply to Teams:

Exchange Online
The standard mailbox quota for Exchange Online is defined by Microsoft as 100 GB for A5 licenses and 50 GB for A1 licenses. These quotas cannot be maintained because of Microsoft’s current “pool storage” strategy. As part of the project to migrate to Exchange Online, discussions are ongoing regarding how the mailbox quota should be defined for ETH Zurich in the future.
The following quotas are currently defined for Exchange Online:
