Microsoft Loop is a collaboration tool for a team to create a draft or brainstorm. The data on Loop is designed to be short-lived. Therefore, important data shall be moved from Loop to other tools for storage. 

Loop is included in Microsoft A5 Plan from March 2024. We are running a testing phase of this product which is currently enabled only for requested users.

The three elements of Loop:

  • Loop components are portable and stay in sync across all places. They can be created in and outside of the Loop app.

  • Loop pages are flexible canvases for a user or a team. They can be created in the Loop app an shared as a link.

  • Loop workspaces are shared space for a team and can be created on the Loop app.


Storage locations

Where the Loop content is stored depending on where it is created:

  • Created in the Loop App, it is stored in SharePoint Embedded
  • Created outside the Loop app in places that have dedicated shared storage (e.g. Teams channels), it is stored in SharePoint
  • Created outside the Loop app in all other places that don't have tightly associated collaborative storage (e.g. Teams chat, Outlook email, Word for the web, Whiteboard), it is stored in OneDrive
