Digital Signage
ID INFRA MMT operates the ETH Digital Signage system based on BrightSign. We ensure the stable and secure operation of the backend systems (players and CMS). This includes monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Through continuous optimization and further development, we ensure the long-term performance of the system.
The scope of services is limited to the technical operation of the backend systems. The creation, maintenance, and management of content are the responsibility of the customers.
Ordering Signage Players
Any new screens must be procured and installed by the customers themselves. If required, we can provide contacts for suitable installation partners. The placement of a screen must be checked in advance against the ETH Signage Specifications. Please also refer to the fact sheet Screens in Signage Projects (currently only available in German).
The Content Management System (CMS) is operated centrally; therefore, new players must be configured and licensed accordingly. Procurement is handled via ID INFRA MMT, which currently also finances the licenses.
- The cost for one player, including setup, is CHF 850.– (as of 04.2026, subject to change).
- A network connection (UTP) must be available for each player.
- The installation and financing of the players are the responsibility of the customers. We can provide recommendations for installation partners upon request.
To order, please email signage@id.ethz.ch with the following information:
- Number and locations of the screens to be used.
- Contact person and cost center number for billing.
Note: Depending on stock levels, preparation and delivery time is 5 to 10 business days.
Uploading Content to Players
To upload content to the screens or players, the software "BrightAuthor connected" is required.
You can find it via the following channels:
- baramundi Kiosk (on managed Windows devices)
- ETH Self Service App (on managed macOS devices)
- BrightSign Download Page
After installation, you can log in with your personal credentials assigned by ID INFRA MMT. You will then see your assigned players and content. If you do not have access yet, please send an email to signage@id.ethz.ch.
For support and questions regarding software usage, we recommend the extensive BrightSign documentation.
Migration BSNEE to bsn.Cloud (2026)
The previous Content Management System, BSNEE (On-Premise), has reached its "End of Life" and has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Manufacturer support will end in late 2026.
Consequently, a new CMS was evaluated, and bsn.cloud was selected as a future-proof, cloud-based solution.
Key advantages of the new solution:
- A modern and user-friendly interface.
- Additional features and functionalities.
- Comprehensive support documentation, enabling faster and more direct assistance while reducing internal overhead.
- Existing hardware and most existing content can still be used.
The full migration of all players and content is planned to take place within one to two days to minimize disruptions.
Users will be kept informed via email throughout the process (also have a look at the Latest Information section on this page).
Additionally, a webinar introducing the new platform is planned (date to be announced).

Latest Information
Preparations are in full swing:
All devices (players) have been re-registered, updated, and cleaned up. User accounts and networks have also been thoroughly reviewed and streamlined. This is essential to ensure that everything functions correctly in the new cloud and that no unused legacy data is migrated.
At the same time, the new structure is being built within the bsn.cloud platform. The goal: Instead of the roughly 65 existing networks, there will only be 3 to 4 networks in the future. However, the previous subdivisions will be maintained—configured as groups and folders with the appropriate access rights.
This change comes with specific advantages and implications:
Advantage: Better organization of content (images, videos) and devices.
Advantage: Easier assignment of access rights.
Implication: All published presentations will be visible to everyone → lists will become longer.
Advantage: Content can be shared more easily.
Advantage: An efficient search and filter function is available.
Overall, the new features offer significantly more advantages than disadvantages.
As soon as the structure is ready, we will initiate the automated device migration together with BrightSign. During this process, the following will happen:
The devices will initially receive a temporary transition presentation.
After that, they will automatically download the new presentation from the cloud.
**Important Note**
Only currently published presentations, including their content, will be transferred.
The following will not be transferred:
Individual images or videos
Unpublished presentations
If needed, these must be uploaded manually by users after the migration.
This helps prevent the accumulation of old and unnecessary data.
An onboarding introduction to the new platform will be provided.
This will likely take place as a webinar.
Further information will follow.
The migration date has been postponed. It is currently scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2026. We will inform you as soon as the exact date is confirmed.
For questions regarding the migration, please contact: signage@id.ethz.ch.
