VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN connection is required to obtain an ETH Zurich IP address. Some websites and services can only be accessed from outside ETH using a VPN connection.

Download Cisco Secure Client

Download the Cisco Secur Client from the App- or Play Store.

Group: student-net

User name: ETH user name@student-net.ethz.ch

Password: ETH network password*

Cisco Secure Client installation & configuration

Caution: Socket Filter (Mac OS)

During the installation process, you will be prompted to grant permission for the socket filter. This permission is required to establish a VPN connection to ETH. If you choose not to grant it during installation, you must enable it manually later in the System Settings.


Start Cisco Secure Client. The server path for the respective groups is as follows:

  • Students: sslvpn.ethz.ch/student-net
  • Staff: sslvpn.ethz.ch/staff-net

After clicking "Connect", a login window will appear. Please login as described above under "Login VPN".


VPN-Clients

The operating system's native VPN clients are not supported on mobile devices or computers. The only supported VPN client is Cisco Secure Client.

For devices with ARM processors, the VPN software “Cisco Secure Client” must be ordered from the ETH IT Shop.
