Scientific Application Server
This server provides all employees with a virtual Windows workstation. Windows users find almost exactly the same conditions as on their managed, physical computer. Only Microsoft Office and few other programs are installed. Additional programs can be subscribed to via the Appstore (https://app.ethz.ch/kiosk, use Remote Desktop, otherwise VPN is required). GESS Application Server
This server is a smaller version of the Scientific Application Server for very specific tasks. Use it if you have installed a particular software here. Otherwise, use the Scientific Application Server.

Different networks (gess, gess-afz, gess-sipo)
Please note that there are three different networks at the D-GESS, each with different credentials:

The ETH general instructions for VPN (General information VPN) also apply to GESS. Remember to replace “staff-net” with “gess”, “gess-sipo” or “gess-afz”.
