Zoom
Upon initial sign in via Zoom web portal, a licensed Zoom account is automatically created. It allows to host meetings with no time restrictions.
Accounts that have not been logged in for more than two years will be downgraded to Zoom Meetings Basic.
Please create a ticket via zoom@id.ethz.ch to receive a license again.
Sign in
Zoom web portal
Navigate to the Zoom web portal
Click on 'Sign in'
Enter your ETH user name followed by @ethz.ch and your ETH email password (Active Directory password)
Zoom client
Open your Zoom Client
Click on 'Sign in with SSO'
Enter ethz as company domain and click 'Continue'
On the website / pop-up that has opened, enter your ETH user name followed by @ethz.ch and your ETH email password (Active Directory password)

- The creation of new impersonal accounts is not allowed since the change to the new headcount-based licensing model in 2025.
Cloud recording
Availability
- Cloud recording is only available only for employees.
- If you are a student and need to be able to record to the Zoom cloud, please contact
zoom@id.ethz.ch with a request for cloud recording permission.
Cloud recording may only be used in teaching context. Please include the reason (e.g. title and course catalog number of the lecture) with your request.
Storage duration of cloud recordings
- Recordings in the Zoom cloud will automatically be moved to the Zoom cloud trash after two years and permanently deleted after a further 30 days.
- As an alternative, videos can be transferred to the ETH video portal for permanent storage. This is also possible retrospectively.
- Please manually delete all Zoom cloud recordings that are no longer to be shared in the teaching context.
- Check with your ISG respectively the ITS Service Desk regarding storage options concerning recordings outside of the teaching context.
- You can find an overview of your Zoom cloud recordings on the ETH Zoom web portal.

LargeMeeting
- For meetings with more than 500 participants please use the webinar format and request a Webinar1000 license upgrade for the day of your event via
zoom@id.ethz.ch.
- If you have already set up a normal Zoom meeting and distributed the link, please convert your meeting to a webinar first.
Webinar 1000
- For meetings or webinars with more than 500 participants please request a Webinar 1000 license upgrade for the day of your event via
zoom@id.ethz.ch.
- It is only neccessary to upgrade the host of the event.
- please send the request at least 5 days in advance.
- you don't need the upgrade to schedule your large webinar, it is only relevant which license is attached before the start and during the event.

AI Companion and Zoom Apps
- AI companion functions are not available.
- Zoom Apps from the Zoom Marketplace are not available.
