Migration to Exchange Online


  • Microsoft Outlook for Windows automatically adopts the new configuration
    • The signature (business card) may not be adopted. You can reactivate it and copy the content from a previously sent mail.
  • All other mail clients must be reconfigured:
    • Remove existing account
    • Reconfigure the e-mail account (see Client configuration)

  • Incomming
    • Protocol: IMAP
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Port: 993 mit SSL/TLS
    • Authentication: OAuth2 (ETH-Username@ethz.ch)
  • Outgoing:
    • Protocol: SMTP
    • Server: smtp.office365.com
    • Port: 587 mit STARTTLS
    • Authentication: OAuth2 (ETH-Username@ethz.ch)

Exchange Online limits (EXO)

  • The mailbox size (quota) for employees is 50 GB
    all other mailboxes receive 5 GB.
  • For employees (A5 facutly) and students (A5 student use benefit), the details for Exchange Online Plan 2 (E5) apply
    for all others (A1), the details for Exchange Online Plan 1 (E1) apply.
  • The A1 license does not include desktop applications.
  • The maximum sending limit is fixed at 10,000 messages per mailbox per 24 hours and cannot be increased.
