Video Portal

For the publication of presentations in video format, we recommend using the ETH Zurich Video Portal. Please follow the documentation on video distribution to upload your videos correctly. Videos published via the Video Portal can:

  • be embedded into AEM websites and/or

  • be published on the ETH YouTube channel.


Research Collection

Metadata Only (without upload)

Conference presentations published on the ETH Video Portal can be recorded in the Research Collection as a “Metadata Only” entry. Please select the type “Other Conference Item” and link the entry to the video on the Video Portal.

Direct publication of the video

Direct publication of a video in the Research Collection is possible, but with certain limitations:

  • Streaming is not supported.

  • Direct embedding into AEM websites is not possible.

If you still choose this option:

  • Upload the conference video as an “Other Conference Item.”

  • Link it to the corresponding “Conference Paper.”
    → Choose the relation type “is supplement to.”

Alternative option

The video can also be uploaded as a supplementary file to an already Open Access published “Conference Paper.”
Note: This option is not recommended, as the video will automatically be published under the same license as the paper, and it will not be possible to assign a separate license to the video.


Publication by a third party

If the video is not published by the speaker themselves but on their behalf (e.g., by the research group), the following applies:

Only slides visible:

A general upload authorization from the head of the research group is sufficient. Please send this authorization once via email to: research-collection@library.ethz.ch

Speaker visible:

  • An individual consent form from the speaker is required for each video (e.g., via email or form).
  • If the video is to be published under a Creative Commons license, this license must be explicitly stated in the consent form.
  • Please send the consent form before uploading to: research-collection@library.ethz.ch


General Remark: Due to software updates, the design of the user interface can change and the screenshots shown above may not correspond to the actual appearance. But the process and the functionalities remain the same.
