Windows
You can download the Windows installation file from the following link: https://polybox.ethz.ch/repo/polybox_clients/polybox-Windows-3.16.2-build-29511-x64.msi
Once you have downloaded the installation file (polybox-*.msi), you can start it by double-clicking on it.
Click through the installation and enter your ETH user name with the corresponding ETH password for web applications (LDAP) at the corresponding installation step.
Once you have successfully connected to the polybox servers, you can then choose what you want to synchronize and where (default: “Everything” with the folder “C:\Users\username\polybox”).
Mac OS X
You can download the OS X installation file from the following link: https://polybox.ethz.ch/repo/polybox_clients/polybox-macOS-feature-600-build-29513.pkg
After you have downloaded the installation file (polybox-*.pkg), you can start it with a double-click.
Click through the installation and enter your ETH user name with the corresponding ETH password for web applications (LDAP) at the corresponding installation step.
Once you have successfully connected to the polybox servers, you can then choose what you want to synchronize and where (default: “Everything” with the folder “/Users/username/polybox”)
Linux
The following distributions are supported for Linux: CentOS/RHEL, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE & Ubuntu.
For Linux you can download the Nextcloud Sync Client through this link.
Please note that the Linux Sync Clients are Nextcloud Sync Clients. These are the same clients as those from polybox itself. The only difference is that you have to enter the path to the server (https://polybox.ethz.ch) manually during the installation process.
Once you have installed the client, you can start the Nextcloud Sync Client.
Click through the configuration and enter your ETH user name with the corresponding ETH password for web applications (LDAP) at the corresponding installation step.
Once you have successfully connected to the polybox servers, you can then choose what you want to synchronize and where (default: “Everything” with the folder “/home/username/owncloud”).
Sync Cilent overview
To make further settings or edit error messages, the polybox Sync Client can be opened via the taskbar.
Under your “Profile” at the top left, you can open the “Settings”, where you have an overview of your memory usage and synchronization status. Here you can also determine afterwards which directories should be synchronized.
In the settings under the “General” tab, you can specify whether the polybox Sync Client should be started at system startup or whether you want to receive desktop notifications. The version of your Sync Client is also displayed here.
If you experience performance problems with your computer or need to limit the bandwidth of your Sync Client, you can limit the download and upload bandwidth of the Sync Client in the “Network” tab. You can also configure a proxy here if you need to connect via one.
Synchronize individual folders
You can use the polybox Sync Client to split your polybox directory into different local folders on your computer. This is particularly useful if you use a polybox account on different computers or for different purposes. For example, you can synchronize data for teaching on your private computer and data for research projects only on your work computer.
If you click on your profile at the top left and then open the settings, you can specify a local directory under “Add Folder Sync Connection” to which selected folders from the polybox directory should be synchronized.
If you select a synchronization directory, you can pause the synchronization or remove the entire directory again with a right click. This does not delete any data in the polybox directory or the locally synchronized data. The directory will simply no longer be synchronized.
